Historical Events 1956-1960

  •  1956- During the year of 1956, the Montgomery Bus Boycott came to an end. The thing that ended this was the Browder vs Gayle case. By this case the district court actually ended segregation on Montgomery buses. Browder was a Montgomery housewife and Gayle was the mayor on Montgomery. In June 1956 the district court stated, "The enforced segregation of Negro and white passengers on motor buses operation in the City of Montgomery violates the Constitution and laws oft he United States." By this happening Montgomery continued to team up with the states of Alabama to sop segregation on buses. 
  •  1957- In the year of 1957, the Prayer Pilgrimage for Freedom happened. The Pray Pilgrimage for Freedom was a non violent demonstration in Washington D.C. This happened on May 17, 1957, so it was an early event that happened before the African-American Civil Rights Movement. The demonstration was on the third anniversary of the Brown vs Board of Education case. This demonstration was organized by A. Philip Randolph. This made a big impact to Civil Rights.
  •  1958- On May 15 in 1958, the Sputnik iii satellite launched by the U.S.S.R. The mission was earth science related. This satellite was a research satellite to explore the upper atmosphere. It was also used to research the near space. Sputnik three was known as an automatic laboratory spacecraft. The mission lasted up to 692 days! That's about two years worth for that mission to occur.
  •  1959- During 1959, the 49th and 50th state were declared for the United States. Before, Alaska was known as a Russian colony in 1744, but then the USA bought it for $7,200,000. Then in 1959 it was declared that Alaska was the 49th state. The 50th state was Hawaii and before it became an official state it was a territory of the United States. Both states became the 49th and 50th state of the United States in 1959.
  •  1960- In 1960 it was John F. Kennedy vs Richard Nixon. The battle was on to whoever will become president. All the votes were in and it was John F. Kennedy who was president and he beat Richard Nixon. The vice president was Lyndon B. Johnson. Also Kennedy supported the civil rights of Martin Luther King.
  •  Another thing that happened in 1960 was the beginning of the rock and roll band called The Beatles. The band was consisted of four boys named John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They formed in a city called Liverpool which is in England. They tried numerous names for their band such as Long John and The Beatles, The Silver Beetles and The Beat Brothers before they tried just going along with the name The Beatles. Their music spread to an abundant amount of people and they became nutorusly famous.
        This video talks about the debate between Richard Nixon and John F. Kennedy. Many news reporter came to this debate to start asking questions. This debate goes up close on the two candidates while they answer questions. The answers to the questions that are given are given very thoroughly and have very good understanding reasons. As now we know that John F. Kennedy defeated Richard Nixon for presidential elections. Both candidates gave a very good debate. All questions and answers were very good for understanding.
